Bad is good for you - the bright side of the depression

A new survey from the University of Michigen has concluded that
financial landslides may be bad for your pocket but they are good for your health.
I will repeat that - bad economy is good medicine.

As a result of checking financial events like the great Wall St. fall
of the 30's the survey found that during the depression the life
expectancy rate rose by an average of six years and the
mortality rate  due to accidents and disease dropped acutely.
What was really interesting were the conclusions regarding why.
It would seem that in a depression people drink and smoke less
for lack of means. Those with jobs work fewer hours, less overtime,
sleep more and are thus less tense. The final conclusion is that with
less money people use their cars less and are involved in fewer
accidents.
No the survey wasn't ordered by Monty Python but it just
shows that there's a bright side to everything.
